BRODERICK FLANIGAN
Committee Co-Chair
Broderick Flanigan was born and raised in Athens, GA. His journey has taken him from his childhood years in public housing and a youthful aptitude for drawing to a degree in kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. In the midst of supplemental professional training, an Art Appreciation course and a spiritual awakening rekindled a desire to pursue an art career grounded in a grassroots approach. Eventually, a commitment to underserved audiences led him to open Flanigan's Portrait Studio on the Eastside of Athens in the “Iron Triangle” neighborhood. He consciously involves community members in many aspects of the organizing work. He joined the Economic Justice Coalition in 2018 to assist in bringing racial and economic equity to Athens. Flanigan believes that good jobs at fair wages can provide cultural and economic investments that have a significant impact on low-income and under-resourced communities. The goal of his efforts is a sustained collaboration between community partners that create a more equitable cultural landscape. To quote Broderick Flanigan, Our youth are at a pivotal time in their lives where they have a choice between excelling or, falling into a vicious cycle of poverty. As community leaders, it is up to us to create opportunities that lead to success. Spread Love!
